While Donald Trump is rapidly moving toward locking down his position as the Republican nominee for president in 2024, his recent speeches have raised questions about his fitness for the Oval Office, with ABC News’ Jonathan Karl saying Trump has appeared “frankly out of it” in recent speeches on the campaign trail.
“We’ve seen him confuse Joe Biden with Barack Obama, he thinks that he beat Obama,” Karl said Monday on ABC’s Good Morning America. “We saw at one point, he talked about how Biden was going to get us into World War II.”
Over the weekend, Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley questioned Trump’s mental fitness, seizing on comments the former president made where he seemed to confuse Haley with former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. “Last night, Trump is at a rally and he’s going on and on mentioning me several times as to why I didn’t take security during the Capitol riots” on January 6,” Haley said. “Why didn’t I handle January 6 better. I wasn’t even in DC on January 6. I wasn’t in office then.”
Karl shared the Trump clip in a post on X, saying Trump was “confused.”
Haley added that “when you’re dealing with the pressures of a presidency, we can’t have someone else that we question whether they’re mentally fit to do it.” In an interview with Fox News, Haley said “we need people at the top of their game. I’m not saying that this is a Joe Biden situation, but I’m saying, are we really going to go and have two eighty-year-olds running for president?”

Haley isn’t the only one talking about Trump’s confusion, with President Biden posting a message on X saying “I don’t agree with Nikki Haley on everything, but we agree on this much: she is not Nancy Pelosi.” The Biden campaign created a video mocking Trump for making that mistake and others from recent speeches:
