Telegraph readers share their motivational weight-loss stories


After Fiona Dawson shared her weight-loss experience – which revealed how she lost four stone in six months – floods of Telegraph readers wrote in to support Fiona, ask further questions and share similar experiences of their own. 

One Telegraph reader, Neil Crase, wrote: Fantastic result – well done, you look great. Just some common sense changes and will power. I admire that you stuck at it, as it is so easy to start and then fall by the wayside as soon as life’s issues raise their head. Inspiring story for others to follow.”

Neil also wanted to know: “Did you eschew alcohol as well?”

Fiona replied: “Thanks, Neil, that’s very kind of you. Regarding your question about alcohol, I’ve always enjoyed the odd glass now and again, but I’ve never drunk that much anyway so didn’t have to reduce it to lose the weight as it was mainly my food and exercise that I changed.”

‘Amid grief, a career change, and the challenges of menopause, it was healthy eating and exercise that became my steadfast companions,’ Fiona wrote

Meanwhile, Catherine Nicholls commented: “Amazing result! I am concerned by the lack of vegetables in her current diet, however. A large amount of green leafy salad and vegetables has been consistently shown to lengthen life and prevent all kinds of disease.”

Fiona got back to Catherine: “I eat loads of vegetables and I love them all! Remember, the food examples listed in the article are just a very small snapshot of what I eat. I’ve shared lots of my food options on my Instagram page over the past eight years which have included lots of veggies”.

And Manu Patel shared: “Inspirational! I’ve started weight-training with a PT. I’m still very unfit, but after reading this I’m going to step up the effort.”

Fiona wrote: “Thank you and good for you in looking after yourself; we only have one life so let’s live it well”.
