BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) – Kids at the Wade Center in Bluefield learned how to cook a healthy, plant-based snack that they got to try today.
Brenda Workman who is a Food for Life instructor visited the children for the second week in a row to cook with kids and let them try something out of their comfort zone.
Today the kids prepared vegetable wraps with hummus, fruit salad, a plant-based smoothie, and chocolate pudding made with tofu.
Workman says this is a great way to introduce healthier food options to children to start forming a connection between food and their health.
“I’m just trying to encourage the children to make the connection between food and health. If we eat healthy food, then we may see the results of that,” said Workman. “In other words, there’s power in our plate.”
Workman says the best way to get children to try new things is to make them a part of the grown and cooking process.
