Eating healthy on a budget

MADISON (WKOW) — Since grocery prices are still high, it can sometimes feel overwhelming to try to maintain a healthy diet.

In honor of National Nutrition Month, UW Health nutritionist Camila Martin shared some ideas of how to eat healthy on a budget.

She said in part — look for canned or frozen foods that may have just as much nutritional value as fresh produce.

“Purchasing canned and frozen is often times much less expensive, especially when you’re finding products that are out of season. In Wisconsin, our winters, turns out, aren’t great for growing produce,’ Martin said.

She says other cost-effective ways to eat healthier this year include buying in bulk when possible, choosing recipes with fewer ingredients and taking time to plan meals and stick to that plan.
