ROCHESTER HILLS, MI – Amid all of its state of the art fitness equipment and sports drinks, a Life Time Fitness in Michigan could soon start serving alcohol.
Rochester Hills City Council voted 5-1 to allow the Life Time in its city to apply for a liquor license with the state, according to the Oakland Press. The report also says the council rejected a similar request back in 2017.
The one council member who voted no this time around told the Oakland Press the Life Time was zoned and designed for fitness and that alcohol does not go hand-in-hand with fitness.
However, the GM of the Rochester Hills Life Time says this isn’t all that unusual. The Oakland Press report says Steven Cullen argued that there are 70 Life Times in 30 states which have liquor licenses and he wants it for his location to make it more of a country club atmosphere to attract more customers amid rising membership fees.
Cullen says his location has been losing members due to rising fees and he wants to serve beer, wine, and hard seltzer in several spots of the club with consumption being limited to certain areas.
