Once in a while when you search your junk email folder, you might find something you missed, and in the case of the Phys Ed teacher at Sheridan Junior High School, he found the needle in the virtual haystack that got the school a new $100-thousand fitness center.
Earlier this year Darin Gilbertson was browsing through his email when he came across one from the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Council.
The email was in reference to The Don’t Quit Fitness Center campaign featuring fitness icon Jake Steinfeld, who is also known for the “Body By Jake” fitness campaign.
To enter, the school had to submit a video demonstrating leadership in getting and keeping their students fit.
Gilbertson says the email seemed too good to be true at first, and then he realized it was the real deal.
“We did a little digging, did our research and we’re like ‘Hey, this thing, this is legit, it’s real,’ and so from there, we went through the process and got everything we needed and sent ‘er in. I think we have a good shot to do it, we’ve got the space, we’ve got the kids, we’ve got the teachers and the department to do this and utilize it and help us grow and so we just went after it.”
Earlier this month, Steinfeld himself was on hand to present the school the new equipment.
