BANGOR — A Planet Fitness in Bangor was abruptly evacuated and closed Thursday afternoon. 

Several local businesses have been shut down and events across the state canceled in the wake of the shootings. 

Planet fitness released a statement saying in accordance with guidance from law enforcement, the Bangor location will be closed until further notice. 

“I came from Waterville I was planning to use the Waterville gym too but they were closed and then decided to stop in here…It’s scary like moving forward probably I’ll always think about my surroundings, I do anyways but having this happen so close to home is scary for sure,” said Machias resident Maggie Allen who was attempting to use the gym on Thursday. 

The gym is not alone as several community events and city meetings are being canceled across the state as well.

Community members are being advised to follow social media updates as events continue to be postponed or canceled.
