Meghan Markle’s go-to healthy snack that’s very easy to recreate at home

Meghan Markle might follow a largely healthy diet most of the time, but she is also partial to treats and snacks throughout the day.

She revealed recently that she tends to get hungrier at lunch so eats a heavier meal then, which is her favourite meal of the day as she likes to eat with friends, especially because she can have a treat.

The former Suits star once said: “I’m always hoping I’m having lunch with people, so we can share fries. It’s its own food group for me.”

But Meghan is also health-conscious and won’t often be seen snacking on crisps or chocolate as many others may be tempted to.

Instead, between lunch and dinner, the mum-of-two combines two staples that form the perfect afternoon snack, giving both energy and nutrition – peanut butter apple slices.

Royal biography Finding Freedom revealed all about Meghan’s go-to snack.

“For snacks in between meals, she opted for apple slices and peanut butter,” authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand said.

This is exactly as it sounds, for those who want to recreate it at home – you can opt for apples of your choice and spread a generous helping of peanut butter, but watch out for the sugar content.

Not all peanut butters are created equal however. For a healthy scoop of protein, look for ones made with minimal ingredients, like peanuts and salt, and don’t contain added oils, sugars, or preservatives.

Meghan might have a bit of a sweet tooth as she also likes to incorporate some sweetness into her breakfast.

The Finding Freedom authors wrote: “Her morning ritual started with a cup of hot water and a slice of lemon, followed by her favourite breakfast of steel-cut oats (usually made with almond or soy milk) with bananas and agave syrup for sweetness.”

And for that post 3pm afternoon slump, Meghan doesn’t reach for the coffee jar, instead opting for a green juice, blending some apple, kale, spinach, lemon, and ginger.
