Forged in fitness

GRAFTON — The village of Grafton welcomed a new member to its business community last month with a ribbon cutting ceremony at Forged in Fire, located at 1306 6th Ave.

Forged in Fire, owned by Jayson Wissmueller, is a fully-equipped fitness facility affiliated with Spartan: DEKA. DEKA stands for the decathlon of function fitness, which consists of indoor fitness competitions and motivational training programs design for all levels.

Forged in Fire members can take advantage of circuit training, weight lifting, stretching cardiovascular exercising and more. Equipment includes NordicTrack machines, free weights and rigs, rope trainers, tire flip stations and boxing stations. The layout is not congested, providing plenty of open space for full-body engagement, Wissmueller said.

A Grafton resident, Wissmueller enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2005, serving in Operation Shared Accord in 2006 in Niger, Africa and served a tour in Iraq in 2008.

An avid runner, he completed countless 5K, 10K and half marathons and obstacle courses. He completed the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. in 2018. Health challenges put an end to running, which led him to the use of gyms. He is a certified Crossfit coach, an ACE-certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor, which set him on his mission of owning his own gym.

The name of the gym, Forged in Fire, comes from Wissmueller’s search for a journey of fitness.

“Everyone has their own journey, and it is not just exercise or working out,” he said. “Just like life, your journey can be challenging. You need to have the strength of mind, body and spirit to accomplish and succeed at your goals. That strength comes from being forged in the fires of your challenges. Every time you overcome one, every time you win a battle, you are strengthened. You become Forged in Fire.”

He said that it has definitely been a journey to get the business going.

“The difference in the gym is my presence, keeping the cost down for clients,” Wissmueller said. “My fiancee, Megan, and I work one-onone with our members, answering questions and offering an interpersonal experience.”

Members have access to several workout routines designed by Spartan: DEKA to use at their convenience.

A state-of-the-art 3D body scanner provides a full body composition reading for clients, in order to help track success, improve health and set goals, Wissmueller said. Members receive a free scan when they sign up and a yearly scan going forward.

The facility provides 24-hour access order to fit all schedules. Memberships are on a month-to-month basis, with provisions for personal time off, taking away the financial stress of joining a gym with long-term commitments.
