DANVERS — A new and improved fitness trail is now open at Endicott Park to give visitors a scenic spot to work out.
The 1.8-mile route features 13 stations that focus on different exercises, such as cardio or endurance, and runs along the park’s main walkways. It’s easiest to access by walking the paths near the park’s playground and back orchard along the site’s Forest Street side.
The trail was originally built during a nationwide exercise boom in the 1970s, but its equipment fell into disrepair over the years.
New equipment was installed along the pathway in work started in late August and completed about Halloween with $20,000 from the Friends of Endicott Park coupled with another $20,000 from the town, said Erika Moretti, the park’s program coordinator.
She expects the trail to be used by regular park goers, summer camp kids and, hopefully, new visitors.
“There is definitely a need for a more structured type of exercise,” Moretti said. “People come and walk at the park all the time, but it’s nice to have something where people can come and set a goal and intention of doing something physical and completing it in that way.”
A grand opening of the fitness trail is scheduled to be hosted in the spring, although the park will host a smaller kickoff event from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 25.
