A Businessman-Turned-Culture-Warrior Announces His 2024 Challenge to Donald Trump

In a video to start his 2024 presidential campaign, millionaire businessman, novelist, and Fox News mainstay Vivek Ramaswamy boldly asserts, “We are in the midst of a national identity crisis,” adding that modern politics amounts to “psychological enslavement.” Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur, echoed these sentiments to Tucker Carlson when announcing his candidacy on Fox News on Tuesday night, promising to “go after these sacred cows, from woke religion in the form of affirmative action to this new climate religion, which is completely shackling the American economy and culture.”

His announcement will obviously put him in competition with former President Donald Trump, who has already announced his 2024 bid. A month ago, Politico reporter Daniel Lippman stated on The Daily Beast’s podcast The New Abnormal that he has an uphill struggle since “he is not campaigning as a businessman. He is running as a champion of cultural… He believes that America has grown almost too lenient.” DNC Chair Jaime Harrison issued the following statement in response to the announcement: “As Vivek Ramaswamy uses Tucker Carlson’s show to launch his candidacy for president, it is evident that the race for the MAGA base is becoming increasingly crowded and chaotic by the day.”
