BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) — Diet is an important part of pet health discussions.
According to a 2023 Association of Pet Obesity Prevention survey, over 84% of dog owners and 70% of cat owners can’t recognize if their animal is overweight.
With 61% of cats and 59% of dogs overweight, the chances of overweight health complications increase significantly.
The Broome County Humane Society recommends that you reference BMI charts online or take your pet to see your veterinarian for weight checks.
If you want to adopt an animal with dietary conditions, consult with your vet or shelter about what to expect from that animal and determine if you would be a good fit to care for its needs.
