AS ONE OF the swolest men in Hollywood, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson knows the importance of not skipping leg day, and he regularly shares glimpses of his lower body workouts on Instagram, including giant sets of belted squats and Bulgarian split squats. And in an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show this week, the Black Adam star showed off his lower body strength in a new way entirely.
Barrymore has become known for her intimate, affectionate interviewing style, and she went all out when welcoming her latest guest, recreating the iconic early ’90s photo of Johnson in a black turtleneck, chunky chain, and fanny pack. She even bundled her long hair under a short black wig to achieve the full effect.
An ever-game Johnson then coached Barrymore in how to walk with the swagger of a pro wrestler turned movie star, and presented her with a gift—a fanny pack emblazoned with her name—before they got to the actual interview portion of the show, at which point Barrymore began asking a series of fanny-related questions.
“Squats help you build a strong fanny,” she said. “Do you think that you can do five squats with me on your back?”
Johnson laughed, replied with a resounding “Yes!” and offered to do a demonstration right there and then in the studio. He hoisted Barrymore onto his shoulders in a kind of fireman’s lift, and executed a set of five seemingly effortless squats with the beloved actress draped across his back.
Squats completed, Johnson turned to Barrymore and asked: “Now, can you do five squats with me?”
