The City of Irondale has secured two grants totaling $110,000 to upgrade Beacon Park, one of the community’s most popular green spaces.
The funding will enhance the walking track and install a new state-of-the-art Fitness Court® at Beacon Park

According to Mayor James D. Stewart, Jr., Irondale was selected as a 2025 recipient of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama National Fitness Campaign Grant. The $50,000 grant will support the installation of a new Fitness Court®, with the goal to promote accessible and inclusive outdoor exercise for residents of all ages.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield grant compliments a $60,000 fitness-related grant Irondale secured earlier this year from Jefferson County to upgrade the walking track at Beacon Park. The new track will be wider and fully ADA accessible.

Both projects are slated for completion in 2026.

A great gathering spot for friends and families of all ages, Beacon Park is located at 5309 Beacon Drive in Irondale. Some of its amenities include:
- 2 picnic pavilions
- Kid’s playground
- Walking track
- Public restrooms
It is also home to the Summer Screen Scene Movie Series and an annual “Jazz in the Park” free concert.
