INDIANAPOLIS (WISH)–A new community event promoting healthier food choices is set to launch on June 25 at Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis.
The event, part of the Good Food Program, aims to raise public awareness about food access and encourage families to make healthier eating choices. It will feature free food from local chefs, vendors, and food trucks, along with a kid-friendly zone.
“We want to make sure that if you just make one healthier option each time you eat, then you change the project of your life, “Tikila Tinker-Martin from the Office of Public Health and Safety mentioned. Max Wing from Downtown Indy noted that the event complements the existing summer activities at Monument Circle, including the adjacent farmers market offering fresh produce and other healthy food options.
The Good Food Program is a partnership with the city of Indianapolis, focusing on improving food access for residents. According to the USDA Food Environment Atlas, 12% of Marion County residents live in low-income areas without direct access to grocery stores.
During the event, the Public Health Alliance (PHA) will award eight $10,000 grants to community agencies that have excelled in promoting healthy food choices over the past five years.
In addition to the Good Food Program launch, Monument Circle will host various activities throughout the summer, including Spark on the Circle, which provides public seating and lawn games.
The Good Food Program event on June 25 offers a unique opportunity for families to explore healthier food options while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of downtown Indianapolis. With free admission and a variety of activities, the event is expected to draw significant community interest.
