Independence Blue Cross and National Fitness Campaign are now collaborating to increase access to free outdoor fitness options in communities throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Municipalities, schools, and other organizations in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties that own accessible public space may now apply for grant funding to assist in building Fitness Courts, courtesy of IBX and National Fitness Campaign. Grant recipients will receive a wellness toolkit, education, and design resources to assist in planning, funding, and launching their outdoor Fitness Court and community wellness campaign.
“Independence Blue Cross has long-supported accessible community health initiatives that break down barriers to physical and mental well-being,” said Dr. Richard Snyder, IBX’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. “By teaming up with National Fitness Campaign to bring free, public exercise equipment to our region, we are helping to build a healthier, more inclusive future for all and ensuring every individual has the opportunity to thrive.”

“National Fitness Campaign is excited to welcome Independence Blue Cross as they join the growing network of leading healthcare sponsors across the country, prioritizing equitable outdoor exercise across the Southeastern Pennsylvania region,” said Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign. “This program will deliver tremendous resources to contribute to the important mission of improving health outcomes as the network of Fitness Courts grows across the region. We look forward to working with IBX to make this campaign a great success.”
National Fitness Campaign aims to build a Fitness Court within a 10-minute bike ride of every American. The Fitness Court lets users leverage their own body weight to get a complete workout using seven exercise stations. Created for people of all abilities aged 14 and older, Fitness Court workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace.
Users also may download the free Fitness Court App, which acts as a “coach in your pocket” and enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience.
