James Martin got rid of three specific foods when he shed three stone and kept it off as part of his weight loss journey.
Due to his busy life as a chef and working long hours, it is easy to explain how James Martin put on weight as he ate for convenience rather than for energy. Many people might pile on the pounds if they are working all the time and decide to let their diet take a backseat.
Back in 2005, James Martin starred in Strictly Come Dancing where a rigorous training schedule and a change to his eating habits resulted in dramatic weight loss. James has kept this weight off for a long time as well, as it has been almost 20 years since he dropped three stone and went from 17st to 14st, reports the Express.
The chef has managed to keep this weight off by seemingly changing his lifestyle and sticking to a healthier way of eating. He said: “I no longer stuff my face with really bad things.”
James added that he says no to “takeaway pizza” – but this is not the only thing he avoids in his diet. The star added that he no longer indulges in “Mars bars and fizzy soft drinks” that can be calorific.
Speaking to the Herald previously, James said that he’d eat “tons” of calorie-heavy foods during a working day, “just like almost every other chef in the country”.
The chef noted: “We might admire the Mediterranean diet but we don’t eat the way the French, Spanish or Italians eat.”
The Mediterranean diet is the optimum diet to follow if you want to lead a healthy lifestyle as the NHS Department of Nutrition and Dietetics confirmed this diet can be a good aid for weight loss.
What is the Mediterranean diet?
The NHS said: “A Mediterranean diet focuses on plant foods like fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, nuts, seeds, and pulses, like, beans, chickpeas and lentils.
“The diet includes moderate amounts of lean proteins like fish and chicken and low-fat dairy foods. Olive oil is used to replace other oils and fats in the diet.”
Plant foods are a filling way to keep you going throughout the day so this will stop you snacking and putting weight on. These foods are also naturally lower in calories so you can eat more without feeling guilty.
People should be aware that this diet contains a lot more fibre than normal so you should slowly increase these foods to avoid bloating and gas.
A Mediterranean diet is best paired with drinking at least eight cups of fluids per day, including water, and tea without sugar.
