Zarlenga usually doesn’t like to miss the gym, but she’s glad she did yesterday.The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said Brian Pedroza was carrying an ax and threatening people.”You always here in other places, but you think I live in Fort Myers. It’s not going to happen here, but now it happens everywhere,” said Zarlenga.Workers inside say around noon, a customer ran inside saying someone was outside of her car threatening her. That victim later told deputies Pedroza was standing in front of her car, ready to swing. He stopped halfway before hitting the roof of her car and then yelled at her, threatening to kill her and the people she was with.”I have never heard anything like this around here. This is really scary,” said Zarlenga. NBC2 spoke to an employee inside who said she was the one who called 911.She says the customer was a first-time visitor and didn’t know Pedroza. “As he was walking past our store, he had the axe on his shoulder, and he looked like he was off to a job, so for someone,” said Lenny Rojas, who works two doors down at Community Thrift Store.People in the area have seen some weird things.”We have had a guy a few weeks ago wearing a Halloween mask and combing hair in front of the store,” said Rojas. But nothing like this.”Not looney tune character weird like carrying an ax on your shoulder like you are going to do something,” said Rojas. Employees said the man changed his outfit before deputies arrested him at a nearby Dunkin Donuts.
