LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – Kindergarteners at Moss-Nuckols Elementary School got a special surprise Friday, March 8.
Jaws dropped when Miss Charlottesville Doctor Alyssa Mixon entered the room.
Dr. Mixon is a cancer rehab physician at the University of Virginia, as well as a storyteller.
“I wrote a children’s book to teach kids about the goal of preventing the spread of medical misinformation, especially in the age of technology and artificial intelligence,” she said.
After reading about “an apple a day,” Mixon handed out “prescriptions to help students keep the doctor away.
Students lined up to turn in these prescriptions for the fruit.
“They visited our pharmacist, who gave them an apple with the prescription, and they wash the apple and then they cut it up and they eat it just like the doctor ordered,” Mixon said.
“She taught me how to stay healthy,” Grant Ward said.
“I learned that apples are healthy,” Serenity Thomas said.
“I really liked Miss Charlottesville here today,” Mason Evans said.
