A new Fitness Court has opened in North Boulder Park, giving community members a new way to exercise outside.
The court, located west of the picnic shelter, was created in partnership with UCHealth and the National Fitness Campaign in response to community demand for an adult exercise area in the park.
It offers stations and equipment for core strengthening and functional movements for a full-body circuit training workout that can be adapted to varying fitness levels. And it’s also free of charge.
Boulder has joined other cities such as Highlands Ranch and Loveland in UCHealth’s Ready. Set. CO statewide challenge to “make Colorado the healthiest state in the nation,” according to a release. The release also stated that the Fitness Court provides a free, accessible and equitable workout space for community members.
“The Fitness Court is a fantastic addition to Boulder Parks and Recreation’s system,” Boulder Parks and Recreation Director Ali Rhodes stated in the release. “For free, you can now strengthen your body in one of our most beautiful parks.”
The new court at North Boulder Park is now the second Fitness Court in Boulder, joining an existing one at the University of Colorado Boulder campus. Community members 14 and older of all ability levels are encouraged to use the court, and Boulder Parks and Recreation recommends downloading the Fitness Court app for workouts and instructions on using the fitness stations.
The city will host a grand opening ceremony at 10 a.m. Oct. 27 at North Boulder Park, located at Ninth Street and Dellwood Avenue. There will be remarks from city officials, a demo showing how to exercise on the court and light refreshments.
