PLUM Foundation to host Thanksgiving food distribution in Stuttgart on Monday

An Arkansas-based charitable organization is holding a food distribution event in Stuttgart next week before Thanksgiving.

The PLUM Foundation will deliver Thanksgiving baskets on Monday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until supplies run out at Holy Benton Temple Church of God in Christ at 1208 N. Maple St. in Stuttgart. Dr. Howard Smith, executive director of the PLUM Foundation, said the thankful giving boxes are part of the organization’s healthy eats initiative and include various food products.

“They are full of canned food, vegetables, and holiday food items to help ease the financial burden that comes during this time of the season to make sure everybody has something on their table during the Thanksgiving holiday and encourage healthy eating in our area,” Smith said.

Everyone is welcome to come pick up a basket. The event is in partnership with local food banks and the USDA.

“We are excited about partnering with them (Benton Temple Church) this year and making sure that families across our region and state have food items and what they need for the holiday season,” Smith said.

Smith said organizers strive to reach Stuttgart and additional area communities with other upcoming events.

“We are looking to expand in Arkansas County some of the food services that we offer to our communities,” Smith said.

Community members can volunteer at the upcoming distribution by visiting the PLUM Foundation website.

“On that site, they can log in and sign up to volunteer with our organization. They can also call us at our center at 888-215-4513,” Smith said.
