- Sabrina Carpenter says she drinks a ginger shot with turmeric when she’s feeling sick.
- Ginger and turmeric are rich in antioxidants and provide anti-inflammatory benefits.
- Carpenter also prioritizes sleep, which is important for immune and overall health.
We’re still reminiscing about the Met Gala and the iconic looks of the evening. This includes Sabrina Carpenter’s pinstripe bodysuit, of course. And to prepare for the biggest night in fashion, the “Busy Woman” notes to Vogue that her immune health and sleep schedule were key.
When asked how she keeps her immune system in check, Carpenter credits a drink to keeping her healthy through touring and a packed schedule—no, it’s not that “me espresso.” It’s actually an easy remedy approved by dietitians.
“Ginger shot [with] turmeric,” the singer says is her “super natural” way to combat a cold, especially before events.
It’s true that ginger and turmeric are a powerhouse combination that can help support your immune system. Together, they’re rich in antioxidants gingerol and curcumin, which are stomach-relieving and anti-inflammatory compounds, respectively. Separately, recent research shows that these spices can help relieve chronic pain.
Don’t Miss
There’s so many ways that you can enjoy ginger and turmeric to reap the benefits. You can prepare a simple tea or Turmeric Latte for a warm and comforting drink (that will also soothe your throat and stomach). Or, like Carpenter, you can slurp down a ginger-turmeric shot for a quick fix. Our senior nutrition editor Jessica Ball, M.S., RD loves these highly-rated Frozen Lemon-Ginger-Turmeric Shots that she makes ahead of time for inevitable sick days.
“They’re packed with immune-supporting ingredients and can easily be portioned and stored in the freezer so you can thaw just what you need when you need it,” she says in an ode to the recipe. Because there’s lemon in the mix, they’re also rich in vitamin C, which can help relieve common cold symptoms.
We also love that with a dietitian-approved sip, Carpenter prioritizes sleep in her routine, saying that she got a refreshing nine hours of sleep the night before the Met Gala. Ample rest is important for immune function, as lack of restful sleep can make it harder for your body to fight off infections. Luckily, there are foods that can help you sleep better, including pumpkin seeds, bananas and herbal tea.
Overall, we’re giving a double thumbs up to the star’s two health tips. We thought we wouldn’t be able to relate, ‘cause she’s a singer, but her wellness rituals are entirely relatable.
