Samsung’s Super-Thin Smartphone Has a Serious AI Fitness Edge

When want technology to unlock new health and fitness gains, we tend to strap on wearable trackers – smartwatches, sportswatches and, more recently, smart rings. But when it comes to actually interpreting your vital signs, in the context of what’s happening in your daily life, these data-collecting powerhouses remain limited.

That Garmin watch doesn’t know you slept badly because you were awake all night stressing over a big work meeting. The Whoop won’t clock that your activity dropped off this week because you’re tapering for a marathon.

But AI-powered smartphones, such as the new Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, are out to change that, with tools that can crunch information across your apps and trackers, connect the dots and deliver smarter insights.

Put another way: when it comes to hitting health and fitness goals, your phone is about to become the brains of the operation. And it could revolutionise how you manage your health.

What AI Can Already Do for You

AI is already changing fitness. ChatGPT instantly cooks up weekly meal-prep plans. Deepseek takes mere seconds to pull together passable, beginner’s Hyrox training schedules. Impressive stuff. But truly mobile AI is about to kick things up a level. In the not too distant future, you’ll be able to point your smartphone camera at weights or equipment in your gym and ask your phone to recommend movements, sets and reps.

When Samsung launched three new S Series phones – the S25, the S25+ and the S25 Ultra – back in January 2025, this trio aimed to move us closer to that world. The promise? That the S25 series would ‘set the standard’ for what an AI phone looks like, offering ‘the most natural and context-aware mobile experience ever created’.

It’s a bold claim, based on its inclusion of tools like Google’s ‘Circle to search’ function (it does what it says on the tin: just draw a ring around the thing you want to Google) and the ability to use a single Gemini voice command to complete connected tasks in multiple apps (like asking your Galaxy S25 Edge to find the date of the next Love Trails Festival, then save it to your calendar).

‘We’ve reached a point now where AI has evolved to become a companion – it knows intuitively what you need, and when,’ said Annika Bizon, Director of Mobile Experience for Samsung UK & Ireland at the launch. ‘It’s lightening your load so you can focus on the things that matter, at your own pace; in many ways, it’s becoming a pocket personal assistant for people, helping you manage your to-do lists.’

What’s New for the Galaxy S25 Edge

This new model comes hot on the heels of those S Series smartphones, packing the same AI capabilities, just in a leaner, tougher, more stashable design.

In addition to ‘Circle to search’, the Galaxy S25 Edge’s AI powers include optimised workout routines, sleep recommendations, and mental wellness check-ins. With a single click of the S25 Edge’s side button, Gemini AI now has the ability to perform multiple actions on different apps all from a single barked order. For example, it can summarise health data gathered by your wearables and generate nutrition plans based on activity logs and dietary input.

It can even give you a high-protein breakfast recipe that you can make using the contents of your fridge, simply by taking a picture of what’s in there. Or point your camera at a pair of running shoes, and not only can it tell you what brand and model they are, but whether they’re suitable for your running routine – and even how to style them with a full workout outfit.

The march towards more personalised health and wellness tools is gathering pace, too. Samsung’s Now Brief and Now Bar features suck information from third-party apps and leverage AI to personalise insights and provide relevant reminders throughout the day, including health and wellness updates.

A Lean Machine: Lighter, Sleeker

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge looks like it’s been working out. It’s thinner, lighter and more powerful than its S Series stablemates. The sleek, titanium body comes in at just 5.8mm thick – the slimmest S Series device yet and weights just 163g – not much more than a banana.

We got our hands on it at the launch and it might be the most running-belt or gym-shorts-friendly smartphone going. It’ll almost disappear in the thigh pockets of your workout shorts.

It’s built to take knocks, too. The 6.7-inch display uses a new tougher Gorilla Ceramic 2 glass that boosts the protection. In theory, you can hit the heavy metal in the gym with less stress about potential bumps and scrapes.

That screen kicks out a punchy 2,600 nits of brightness, backed by the same snappy Snapdragon 8 elite chipset as the S25 Series smartphones, powering a day-long battery life that can also handle 24 hours of video playback.

Shoot your Shot: How We Rate the Camera

Speaking of video, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge also features a 200-megapixel, Galaxy AI-enabled, wide-angle main camera along with a 12-megapixel ultra wide lens with autofocus for snapping macro shots. Samsung also says it offers a 40% improvement in night photography.

There’s a handy generative edit tool that uses AI to remove photo bombers and unwanted objects in your gym-flex shots. You can also use the clever Audio Eraser to wipe out unwanted background noise from your videos.

Galaxy S25 Edge Price and Release Date

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge goes on sale on 30 May in 256gb and 512gb storage options, priced from £1,099 and £1,199 respectively. You can pre-order yours at the link below.
