King County families, Get Ready! We’re excited to introduce SUN Bucks, a summer lifeline for families with school-age children. This fresh initiative complements existing programs, ensuring no child misses out on nutrition when school’s out.

Nutrition doesn’t take a summer break: School-provided meals are a lifeline for many students. Come summer, SUN Bucks will step in to bridge the gap, working hand-in-hand with free meal programs.

Boost your summer with SUN Bucks: This innovative program offers a summertime nutritional boost, granting each eligible child $120 in food benefits. Children can use these benefits at any grocery store and farmers market that accepts SNAP/EBT, ensuring access to healthy food choices during summer. It’s easy, accessible, and all about healthy choices.

Claim your SUN Bucks: If your child receives free or reduced-price school meals, they’re automatically eligible for SUN Bucks! Additionally, children in households benefiting from SNAP, FAP, TANF, or SFA are also instantly qualified. If you are NOT automatically enrolled, here’s how:

  • School district sign-up: Apply before the school year ends to determine eligibility. The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) provides a comprehensive list of Washington school districts, with links to each district’s meal application and income survey.
  • Social and Health Services (DSHS) application: Apply via DSHS from mid-June to August 31st. Text alerts are available—opt-in now to stay informed about the application window.

Let’s ensure no child goes hungry this summer. Embrace the SUN Bucks program and give your children the nutrition they deserve.
