ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – February is American Heart Month, which means you should make sure the food you consume will help your heart healthy for years.
There are food groups you should focus on to aid in a healthy heart such as, unsaturated fats like nuts and seeds and fatty fishes. Snack on fruits and veggies to receive your daily dose of natural sugars instead of processed sugars. Increase your fiber intake to avoid any blockage. Those fibrous components can be whole grains, cereal or beans. Lastly, limit sugars and high-sugar beverages that will only increase your blood sugar and damage arteries.
Camila Martin, a nutritionist with UW Health shares more tips on how to keep your heart healthy.
