GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – Monday morning marked an exciting day for students at Walnut Middle School in Grand Island. They got the first look at some new equipment they will get to use.
Social Studies Teacher and Athletic Director Eon Lemburg was awarded a grant from the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation to purchase new fitness equipment for the “Junior Islander Power” program.
He received more than $2,300 to buy kettlebell weights and rowing machines to help students pursue a lifelong healthy lifestyle.
“The whole goal of Junior Island Power is to develop into good skills, good form, good character, our big three core values, so when they get to high school, they know exactly what they’re talking about, the lingo, and the verbiage is the exact same,” Lemburg said.
GIPS Foundation Executive Director Kari Hooker-Leep said they are very excited about the new equipment.
“Eon has done several different programs for us and he continues to give back to his students and that’s his main focus, being sure that his students get the best thing they possibly can,” she said.
With the addition of new and updated equipment, students will be able to learn and master different workouts that best suit their needs.
All students in athletics, physical education, and health elective courses will have the ability to use this equipment.
